Thirteen local bands will be featured in a 30-minute documentary airing at 7:30 pm on Monday, January 31st, on Oklahoma City’s CBS affiliate, KWTV/News 9.

Set against a Bricktown backdrop, the Chevy Bricktown Showcase Special will showcase Oklahoma City’s vibrant and diverse music scene.

“With numerous live music venues and the nation’s first School of Rock, Bricktown is fertile ground for Oklahoma City’s music scene,” said Avis Scaramucci, Bricktown Association President and owner of Nonna’s Euro-American Ristorante and Painted Door gifts. “We appreciate the unique talent of our city’s musicians and also the Oklahoma Chevy Team Dealers for making it possible to promote and support local musicians through the Chevy Bricktown Showcase Special.”

The special is a more in-depth version of the Chevy Bricktown Showcase YouTube series, a mini-documentary series produced by Griffin Marketing Solutions and the Oklahoma Chevy Team Dealers. The series explores the vast wealth of talent emanating from the Oklahoma City music scene, inviting the viewer to listen in on the conversations between these featured musicians. The series launched in June 2010 with singer-songwriter Ali Harter.

“We’ve all gained more recognition and exposure through the Chevy Bricktown Showcase, but maybe even more importantly, we’ve built working relationships with fellow local musicians, the film crew, and local businesses that now see the value in combining Oklahoma music, art and commerce,” Harter said.

The special will feature Harter and 12 other local musicians talking about their craft and performing original songs. The special and YouTube series were directed, filmed and edited by Tommy Smeltzer and Kevin Muir of Los Angeles.

“I had heard Oklahoma City had an active music scene, but the Chevy Bricktown Showcase is proof positive that it’s full of great talent,” Smeltzer said. “I was especially impressed with the artists’ dedication to their craft and their incredible work ethic. I hope Monday’s documentary will shine a light on that and help bring people out to support more original music.”

Local musicians featured in the documentary include: Ali Harter, Camille Harp, Little League Hero, Clancy Davis, BuffaloFitz, The Grown Ups, Unmarked Cars, Scott Hartman & Co., 8 Bit Cynics, Jamie Bramble, Blaise-Moon, Hiphopotamus, and The Venditos.
