Junebug Spade
File under: Stoner-pop, party-rock... Junebug Spade, a quirky line-up of musicians who grew up enveloped in Oklahoma City's rabid, experimental music scene, are known more for their off-beat musical sensibilities than for conventional indie aesthetic. Their self-titled EP--their first release--has found them national attention, and was recorded at Bell Labs (home of indie producer and former Chainsaw Kittens guitarist, Trent Bell). The six rock tunes blend the cynical enthusiasm of the Kinks and Built to Spill with classic Jagger/Richards riffs.
Junebug Spade has opened for such acts as Built To Spill, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, and Magic Kids. They have also packed the house at Dfest, Norman Music Festival and Momentum. For their second EP, Fashion and Fame, they returned to Bell Labs Studio with the intention of maintaining creative progression and pushing things forward stylistically. The five-song EP has been compared to that of raindrops on a hot tin roof.
